Sophie Moorea is an Argentinian-American composer, arranger, and trombonist from São Paulo, Brazil. With over 10 years of experience in music and dance across three continents, she seeks to highlight shared human experiences and raise awareness of social justice issues through her work.
Moorea earned her Bachelor’s in Music with a concentration in Instrumental Composition from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, studying composition under Dr. Diego Vega and Dr. Jennifer Bellor and orchestration under Dr. Viet Cuong. She also studied trombone performance under Nathan Tanouye, Dawid Myzk, and Joe Alessi. Moorea's journey into music composition began in high school at the International School of Aberdeen in Scotland, where she studied Higher Level Music as part of the International Baccalaureate program.
Moorea’s interdisciplinary approach has led her to compose for dance, theatre, and film, collaborating with choreographers and artists worldwide. Notable collaborations include her work at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival with CFACoLab, which earned five stars from The Scotsman. She also worked with Juilliard Alumni and award-winning choreographer, Haley Murphee as part of the Nevada Ballet Theatre’s inaugural NBT DanceLab as well as the UNLV World Music Chamber Ensemble where she served as manager and arranger of Chinese folk songs accompanied by traditional dances and martial artists.
These experiences shape her continued exploration of music, dance, social justice, and the human experience, culminating in her latest works, Rêverie, Lament, Vitae, Alarum, Dear Alba. She currently serves as the composer and sound designer for the New York Film Academy and Hemmy Productions feature film project, "For Love of The American Dream" trailer and Deck Pitch.
